Day trip

Luxor day trip from Hurghada

Around four hours on the road each way, 560 kilometres there and back, and a long day in between. My car and I stay with you for all of it. You are not on a coach, you are not waiting for forty other people, and you leave at the hour that suits you.

What the day looks like

Most people leave before sunrise, so the temples are done in the cooler hours and the drive home is after dark. That is your choice, not a timetable. The road runs inland through the desert and joins the Nile valley near Qena. Between the sites you come back to a cool car and your own things, and when you have had enough, we drive home.

What people usually see

  • The Valley of the Kings, on the west bank
  • Hatshepsut's temple, under the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari
  • The temple complex at Karnak, on the east bank

That is what most people ask for, and it fits comfortably in a day. It is your day and my car, so if you want to swap something out or sit longer somewhere, tell me on the road.

What the price covers

  • The car and me for the whole day, there and back
  • Fuel, tolls and parking
  • Waiting at every stop, for as long as you are inside
  • Pickup and drop-off at your hotel door
  • Water in the car, and a child seat if you need one

What it does not cover

  • Entrance tickets to the sites, which you buy at each one
  • A guide, if you want somebody to walk you round and explain it
  • Food and drinks along the way

This matters when you compare prices. A lot of Luxor day trips advertised online are group tours with a guide and tickets bundled into the headline number, and you travel with strangers on somebody else's schedule. Mine is the car and the driver only, kept for you alone all day. Neither is better. They are different things, and you should know which one you are buying.

Good to know

How long is the drive to Luxor?

About four hours each way, roughly 280 kilometres in each direction. Add the time you spend at the sites and it is a full day, usually twelve hours or so door to door.

What time do we leave?

You choose. Most people leave before sunrise to get the temples done before the heat, and are back in Hurghada in the evening.

Are the entrance tickets included?

No. The price is for the car and the driving. Tickets are bought at each site, and a guide is arranged separately if you want one.

Is it too long a day for children?

It is a long day, and I will say so honestly. It works better with older children than with toddlers. The car is air conditioned, child seats are free, and we stop whenever anyone needs to.
